Megan Meehan

Everything I create, I see as a drawing, from beginning to end. I start with a line, a thread, a gesture, a mark, a photo, and it turns into something else. Drawing becomes a ritual. It is an action of exploring, discovering, sorting, mapping or thinking. The garments embody my outgrown skin. When I use my own body it feels as though I am sewing a shell around myself. I step out and see the hollow shape of my body, a strange garment consisting of my own hand-work. Through screen printing, sewing, free motion embroidery, drawing, collaging, and non-silver printmaking on fabric, the garments emerge, standing as these presences. They are drawings to me. Through all of these mediums, including the use of certain fabrics, I am exploring the line, mark making, the hand, and the emotions they elicit.
