Joe Defilippis

My work is most often sculptural installation with audio/video elements. I control a space by creating an environment out of a relationship or conversation between imagery, light and sound. My work uses childlike and surreal imagery, with some sense of humor. I am interested in exploring the connection/relationship and separation between the physical body and the mental/spiritual self. An important part of this relationship between selves is the way wear and stress on the physical body manifests in the mental self and vice versa. In pursuit of a palpable but undefined spiritual space, I incorporate related themes of isolation, introspection and repetition of thought and action. All of which serves as a kind of meditation, often revealing something about oneself and one’s experiences.
