My works for thesis are influenced by the small folded paper sculpture of origami. With origami, the simple folding of a sheet of paper can morph into a complex abstract form, evoking something known or familiar. My sculptures are an interpretation of this process, using geometric shapes with hard angles, referencing the process of folding paper by assembling cut metal shapes into a final form. Metal can be molded, hammered, cut, and reattached into many different compositions. Patinas are used primarily on the larger surfaces to bring out the marks the industrial fabrication processes have left on the sheet steel. My recent pieces have also moved from the wall to the floor, enabling me to increase the size of the work. Being seen from different points of view, they seem to create more depth and movement. These pieces all appear to be more life-like or resemble living organisms in a way the wall pieces did not.
