Kevin Roselli
My recent works have moved in the direction of psychological contrast, juxtaposing the normal and familiar with the paranormal and the strange. In addressing these themes, my paintings for thesis include two distinct bodies of work intended to function in unison. The ‘Pennsylvania Architecture’ series involves vernacular buildings, typically domestic structures, that evoke a sense of isolation or loneliness. The ‘Sheet Ghost’ series depicts portraits hidden under “DIY” ghost costumes, reminiscent of childhood. These works combine my queer identity with my long time interest in horror and the paranormal. Together they are intended to identify and reclaim the sense of isolation that othered people feel beginning early in life.
